Treatment for Young Adults

October 19, 2017

As an upward extension of our programs for youth and teens, LRADAC offers treatment for young adults, specifically between the ages of 18 and 24.  LRADAC receives referrals to this program from the University of South Carolina, Midlands Technical College, Benedict College, Allen University, Columbia College, and other institutions that serve this age group.

In 2016, the National Institute of Health published a series of infographics that illustrated substance use trends among this age group.  Key findings included:

  • Daily marijuana use is at the highest level since the early 1980s. Use among non-college students is significantly higher than use among college students in the same age group.
  • Heavy alcohol use appears to be higher among college students than among their non-college peers.
  • Nicotine use is generally lower among college students in comparison to non-college students of the same age group.
  • Amphetamine (i.e. Ritalin and Adderall) misuse is higher among college students than among their non-college peers.

If you or someone you know in this age group is seeking treatment, walk in times for assessments and consultations are Monday – Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  A referral form is also available online here.

LRADAC is the designated alcohol abuse and drug abuse authority for Lexington and Richland Counties of South Carolina. The public, not-for-profit agency offers a wide array of prevention, intervention and treatment programs in locations convenient to residents of both counties. The agency has a budget of approximately $10 million and serves more than 5,000 clients per year.
