“Worlds Apart: What Works in Adolescent Substance Misuse Treatment and Why”
Expert James Campbell to Share Insights on Effective Adolescent Modalities – Free Seminar Hosted by LRADAC on May 1
Columbia, SC – According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, only about 10% of adolescents in need of substance use treatment actually receive the assistance they require. This statistic reflects current trends in adolescent development and learning, where there is often a disconnect between what experts know works best with adolescents and the substance misuse treatment modalities that are applied. To help address these challenges, LRADAC will host a free, all-day seminar on May 1 entitled, “Worlds Apart: What Works in Adolescent Substance Misuse Treatment and Why,” conducted by James Campbell, a nationally recognized author and speaker as well as the Associate Director for the Southeast Addiction Technology Transfer Center in Atlanta.
“Adolescents can sometimes feel as if they come from an entirely different world—and in many ways, they do,” said Campbell. “However, with groundbreaking research on adolescent development and learning, we now possess powerful insights into how to connect with and support them more effectively. This session will explore the latest findings and, most importantly, how to apply them in real-world treatment settings to create a lasting impact on prevention, intervention, and treatment strategies. “
The session will also highlight teens’ unique vulnerabilities, the crucial role of family and support systems, and the influence of media, empowering attendees to better support adolescents on their path to recovery. This free presentation is open to the public, including addiction counselors, healthcare workers, mental health professionals, teachers, and any other interested parties. It will take place at LRADAC’s Education Center, located at 2711 Colonial Drive in downtown Columbia, beginning at 9:30 am.
