Marijuana Addiction & 4/20: Burn out Bad Habits

April 20, 2018

April 20th is usually a day cast in the green smoky spotlight and rarely on 4/20 (pronounced ‘four-twenty‘) do you ever hear any facts about marijuana addiction and the negative health effects caused by marijuana.

The True Facts About Marijuana Addiction

[icon name=”arrow-right” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Did you know that marijuana is addictive? About 1 in 6 people who start using marijuana in high school and 25 to 50 percent of those who use it every day become addicted.

[icon name=”arrow-right” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] Marijuana is a Schedule I drug because of its high potential for abuse. It shares this classification with heroin, ecstasy, and LSD!

[icon name=”arrow-right” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] The drug also affects the brain and leads to impaired short-term memory, perception, judgement and motor skills.

Let’s change the norm and promote healthy, drug-free activities.

In many circles, 4/20 is considered a day to celebrate marijuana consumption and its pro-legalization efforts.

You may have heard about it in a movie, or you may have seen it on social media; messages that say, “’4/20’ is the day to get high.” But what if we changed this message to, 4/20: a Day to Celebrate Life? What if instead we suggest that people get high on life?

Let’s change the norm and promote healthy, drug-free activities. Join LRADAC and its Community Services Department to burn out bad habits and get high on life!

Learn How We Can Change “4/20”

Leading up to April 20th we have asked people to post on our Facebook event page, Burn Out Bad Habits: Get High On Life, both messages and pictures of themselves doing healthy, positive and drug-free activities. The goal is to show youth that there are better things to do on 4/20 than to get high.

So far we have seen some incredible pictures and read some great messages. Today, 4/20, we hope that more people will post to the page showing their support. We have the power to change this idea that April 20th is a day to get high.
